Aaron’s work focuses on the intersection of individuals, finance, and change. He has worked, through CanadaHelps and Vartana, to inspire more donors to give and to open up new avenues of financing for social sector organizations. CanadaHelps will raise over $30 million in 2007 for social sector organizations across Canada, as well as pioneering ways for donors to give gifts of securities directly to worthy causes. It has helped build the capacity of thousands of organizations. Vartana is working to build new channels of financing by leveraging relationships with two key financial partners.
Canada’s estimated 180,000 charities and CSOs cannot access mainstream financial institutions because existing services primarily target the needs of commercial, for-profit corporations and individuals. Banks’ sophisticated, integrated systems come to a standstill when faced with a loan application from a CSO. On the other hand, CSOs are realizing that donations and grants cannot supply all of their funding needs. Vartana will provide the tools, products and resources that CSOs currently lack and, in so doing, help support the development of the citizen sector.
