Jean-Louis Warnholz

Social Day
Jean-Louis grew up in Northern Germany. Travels to developing countries allowed him to get a glimpse of the everyday reality of poverty at an early age. Still at school, he and his friends initiated what is by now one of Germany's foremost educational and fundraising campaigns, raising over 10 million Euros for young people in the former Yugoslavia and directly engaging one million participants. In the course of six years, Jean-Louis helped to develop this student initiative into a professionally run NGO. In 2002, he and his girlfriend decided to travel. They were fortunate to live with indigenous farmers in the Peruvian Amazon, study with Tibetan monks, and learn invaluable lessons from highly inspiring individuals fighting for a cause. As part of his studies in Economics and International Affairs at the University of Bath, Jean-Louis currently works for the UK Department for International Development.

On Waldzell 2005
The meeting conveyed a sense of urgency. A need for change. At the same time it called upon the responsibility of individuals to form part of this agenda for change. This was combined with an inspiring display of human courage and ideas, which had a profound and benign impact. It motivated me to get some friends together again and start a new project.

I remember sitting in the imposing, illuminated church of Melk Abbey. My eyes were closed and a truly beautiful voice filled the air with Tibetan Mantras. After a long day full of exciting discussions and inspiring individuals, that provided a moment of calm reflection and the opportunity to marvel at life's wonders.
