The Idea
With this initiative, we seek to support and inspire young people who wish to contribute to making the world a better place with specific projects that make a difference.

The Opportunity
The awardées will be given the “Architect of the Future Awards”. At the Award Ceremony they will have the chance to present their project to the public. Subsequently, they will have an opportunity of building contacts with potential mentors and sponsors.

The grant includes:
• Architects of the Future Spiritual Retreat
• Project presentation at the Architect of the Future Award Ceremony
• Participation at the Mentors Lounge
• Active participation in the worldwide Architects of the Future Community
• Food and lodging
• Travel scholarship up to a maximum amount of 700 € for overseas flights and a maximum of 250 € for continental European flights/train tickets

Requirements
The competition is open to all applicants between the ages of 20 and 40, regardless of gender, nationality, social status, education or religious denomination. Applications may be submitted by anyone who has consequently completed a concrete project in an environmental, social, educational, health-care or communication context with working experience of a minimum of 3 years in one of those fields.

Since English is the language of the Award Ceremony, fluency in written and spoken English will be required. The participation at the spiritual retreat and at the Award Ceremony is obligatory. Thus applicants must be able to stay in Vienna from 2 to 7 June 2012.

The Competition
The competition for the grants is organized in co-operation with renowned international organisations. The period for application will end on 21 March 2012.

This should reflect the professional background, education/training, personal interests and motivation for the applicant’s commitment to his/her project. It should also briefly describe how it relates to the Architects of the Future initiative.

This should reflect the project background and motivation, the applicant’s role, project objectives, course of project, changes achieved and a critical review of the project as well.

Every year some of the most inspiring young leaders are elected within the frame of a worldwide selection and awarded with the Architects of the Future Award. A consideration of the Architects of the Future projects within the Waldzell Collection incumbent in the world famous library of Melk Abbey in Austria reveals the extraordinary appreciation and recognition of the great significance of our awardées.

The Collection honors selected lifeworks of outstanding contemporary personalities preserving them for posterity.

Furthermore, the Architects of the Future are honored to participate in one of the most highly endowed social awards – the Essl Social Price Award – taking place at the Hofburg Vienna. Within this celebration the Architects of the Future will socialize with various business leaders, important decision-makers and dedicated philanthropists.

Spiritual Retreat

In addition, we are offering an annual spiritual retreat for the award winners. The focus of this four-day-lasting retreat lies on a meditative examination of the very power source of each individual, the inner mission, and on the alignment of this source with its effectiveness outside. Following experiences have been considered to be special personal gains:

• Widening of perspectives towards an integral world view
• Gaining energy for a demanding day-to-day work of a young leader
• Reflection and exchange with likeminded people
• Connection on a deeper level facilitating real partnership and friendship
• Creation of a meaningful strong global and intercultural community

5 days and 4 nights they spent together. Accompanied and leaded by carefully selected specialists they dealt with their history and their direction as well as with their inner strength and spirituality. They got to know each other, shared their knowledge, their experiences and their wisdom and inspired, strengthened and quickened each other. Moreover there was time for precious exchange with former Architects and Ashoka Globalizers, respectively.

Taking each one’s lifework to the Waldzell Collection in the Melk Abey, was again a special highlight. Together with Padre Martin’s dinner invitation to the „secret“ cellar of Melk Abey, where usually only illustrious people like Paulo Coelho are welcomed, the whole became an unforgettable event.

After those intense days the new Architects of the Future returned to their country or to the home country of their initiatives, encouraged by esteem and time for harking back to one self’s being, enriched by new companions, quickened by common dreams and plans….

Die Architects of the Future wurden im Jahr 2005 von Waldzell ins Leben gerufen und sind eine weltweite Gemeinschaft junger inspirierter Sozialunternehmer, die ihre Herzensanliegen in Form von erfolgreichen Unternehmungen in die Welt bringen. Die Architects sind Vorboten einer neuen Wirtschaft. Sie verbinden ganzheitliches Bewusstsein mit erfolgreichem Unternehmertum, soziale Wärme mit gesellschaftlichem Engagement.

Die Architects of the Future verkörpern den Dienst an der Gemeinschaft als neues wirtschaftliches Leitbild und sind auf diese Art inspirierende Vorbilder für all jene Menschen, die in ihrem Leben etwas Sinnvolles bewirken wollen. Sie konzentrieren ihre Arbeit auf soziale und ökologische Problemfelder und helfen dort, wo Wirtschaft und Politik es nicht tun. Waldzell begleitet die Architects auf ihrem Weg, unterstützt sie durch ganzheitliche Weiterbildung in ihrer persönlichen Entwicklung und hilft bei der Umsetzung ihrer Vorhaben.

Die „Architects of the Future Awards“

Mit der Verleihung der “Architects of the Future Awards” wird die Gemeinschaft jedes Jahr erweitert. In einem weltweiten Auswahlverfahren werden jährlich zehn der inspirierendsten jungen Social Entrepreneurs ausgewählt. Sie werden im Rahmen einer Preisverleihung mit den Architects of the Future Awards ausgezeichnet und in die bestehende, derzeit 70 Mitglieder umfassende, Gemeinschaft aufgenommen.

Die Waldzell Collection im Stift Melk

Eine besondere Würdigung erfahren die Projekte der Architects of the Future durch ihre Einbringung in die Waldzell Collection in der berühmten Bibliothek von Stift Melk. Die Waldzell Collection ist eine Sammlung ausgewählter Lebenswerke bedeutender Persönlichkeiten unserer Zeit, die auf diese Art für die Nachwelt bewahrt werden.

Der Auswahlprozess

Die Nominierung für die Architects of the Future Awards erfolgt in Zusammenarbeit mit den weltweit renommiertesten Organisationen im Bereich Social Entrepreneurship. Bei der Auswahl der Architects of the Future wird besonderes Augenmerk auf die Persönlichkeit der Preisträger, ihre inneren Beweggründe sowie auf den Inhalt und die Wirkung ihrer Projekte gelegt. Zusätzlich wird eine ausgeglichene Verteilung der geographischen Einflussbereiche und der Geschlechter angestrebt.

Inspiration und Gemeinschaft

Das Herz der Architects of the Future Initiative ist die Verbindung von innerer und äußerer Arbeit. Die Architects wollen als Gemeinschaft eine Brücke zwischen spirituellem Streben und sozialem Engagement sein. Sie verkörpern eine Haltung, die zum Ausdruck bringt, dass die Veränderung der äußeren Welt mit der Veränderung im eigenen Inneren beginnt.

Das jährliche Treffen der Architects of the Future dient der Stärkung beider Sphären, der inneren und der äußeren. Der Ablauf des Jahrestreffens unterteilt sich sinngemäß in zwei Bereiche:

I) Retreat

Im Zentrum dieses vom bekannten Benediktinermönch Bruder David Steindl-Rast begleiteten dreitägigen Retreats steht die Verbindung mit der eigenen Quelle, dem innersten Wesen und seiner Berufung. Aus dieser Verbindung soll die Klarheit der eigenen Vision und die Kraft zu ihrer Verwirklichung im sozialen Engagement gestärkt werden. Regelmäßige Gruppengespräche und Meditationen gehören ebenso zum Programm dieses Retreats, wie ein individuelles Coaching für alle Architects.

II) Social Business Workshop

In diesem zweitägigen Workshop sollen die Architects die Möglichkeit bekommen mit Entscheidungsträgern aus der Wirtschaft zusammenzukommen. Das gemeinsame Ziel ist es, voneinander zu lernen, Ideen zu entwickeln und eine inspirierte Gemeinschaft zu bilden, die eine starke und gesellschaftlich bedeutsame Kraft für eine sozial ausgewogene Wirtschaft bilden kann.

Den Führungskräften bietet dieser Workshop eine wertvolle Möglichkeit, in sehr kurzer Zeit einige der inspiriertesten und weltweit erfolgreichsten jungen Sozialunternehmer kennen zu lernen, mit ihnen zu arbeiten, eigene Ideen einzubringen und auf diese Art neue Projekte und Perspektiven für eine gerechtere Welt zu entwickeln. Durch diese Veranstaltung können Führungskräften Teil eines weltweit agierenden sozialen Netzwerks werden, das sich aktiv und wirkungsvoll für den Wandel in unserer Wirtschaft einsetzt.

To react to the smouldering financial crisis and the danger of a collapsing money system Waldzell supports the foundation of barter circles and complementary money systems.

A barter circle is a useful completion of our conventional money system. It is based on soidarity and individual responsibility of the participants. The members can bring their professional skills and talents into the network, thus sharing them with others. That way a common market of very different offerings is established. The goods and services can be bartered through this mutual credit system, which is not profit-oriented.

Ziel des Tauschkreises ist es, eine Gemeinschaft wachsen zu lassen, in der Geben und Nehmen, basierend auf den eigenen Talenten, nachvollziehbar sind und sich im Gleichgewicht halten. So sollen Alternativen zum bestehenden Werte- und Wirtschaftssystem aufgezeigt werden, die auf menschlichen Beziehungen und gegenseitigem Vertrauen aufbauen.

In einem Tauschkreis kann jeder seine Talente voll entfalten, indem er/sie anbietet, was er gerne macht und teilen möchte, egal ob es sich um spezielle Kenntnisse, Dienstleistungen oder Produkte handelt. Als Austausch kann er von anderen aus dem Kreis alles in Anspruch nehmen, was sie anzubieten haben. Je mehr Menschen mitmachen, desto größer sind Angebot und Nachfrage. Das macht das Tauschen im Tauschkreis interessant, vielfältig und freudvoll.

Jeder Teilnehmer erhält dabei ein Tauschkreis-Konto. Was man gibt wird einem gutgeschrieben, was man konsumiert wird abgezogen. Die verrechnete „Währungseinheit“ ist eine Stunde Lebenszeit. Auch Produkte werden auf diese Weise in Zeit bewertet.
