Out of our decade of experience and the need of the time we are in, we created the Waldzell Institute for Leadership, Excellence and Success

The Waldzell Leadership Institute

Our Vision

Waldzell is a place for an inspired collaboration of people who care for the conscious progress of humanity. Waldzell are people from all fields of life coming together to share knowledge and experience, to look for a greater perspective, for a deeper sense and purpose in life.

Waldzell wants to bring these people together, to create places and spaces where visions and ideas can grow, where people can inspire and support each other, where love and creative power can grow and help to accelerate the conscious progress of our society.

Waldzell is dedicated to the conscious progress of the individual and the collective, to finding new ways of a fruitful and joyful togetherness. Public initiative and a living collaboration with committed people, with companies, institutions and organizations are the fundament of Waldzell.

Our Mission

Waldzell motivates visionaries who have realized that, because of our traditional points of view, we will be unable to solve the problems we are confronted with. Together we seek to find the courage to let go of old-fashioned attitudes and issues and pursue new paths in order to be open for a new history – a history of joy, peace and love.

The Waldzell Meetings established a sound platform for a set of visionary people who deal with questions that are beyond our daily-life concerns in order to develop a more holistic view of the world. The Waldzell Leadership Institute is intended to convey this idea in a new format.

The tradition, the wisdom, the intention for a better world have been and are being transmitted through the ages and carried into the world by the bravest spirits and the most revolutionary minds. The Waldzell Leadership Institute offers a platform for those leaders of our society, who are ready and willing to undergo a deep personal transformation in order to carry those eternal teachings on and bring them to a fruitful application in our modern world.

Our History

Dipl.Ing. Gundula Maria Avenali (ehem. Schatz), aka Puran Sukh Kaur, is the founder and director of the Waldzell Institute. In 2001 she had the inspiration to start Waldzell during a transformational stay at the famous Esalen Institute with the vision to create a place for interdisciplinary dialogue and integrative healing.

From 2004 to 2008 she organized the Waldzell Meetings at Melk Abbey with Andreas Salcher. In 2008, after a surgery, she fell into coma and had to close down the Institute for nearly two years. In autumn 2010 Gundula Avenali started the Institute again with new perspectives and initiatives.

In 2014, after a period of in-depth study of the science of Yoga, Gundula Avenali started the Waldzell Leadership Institute together with Sadhana Singh with the vision to offer an intense personal transformation program for those leaders of our society, who have the responsibility and opportunity to guide us into a better future.

The Myth Waldzell

Waldzell is a fictitious place in Hermann Hesse’s “Glass Bead Game” where selected people, the “Glass Bead Players”, create a total work of art, which is intellectual and aware. Its effect reaches far beyond the circle of players and essentially contributes to the spiritual further development of society.

Where precisely the name “Waldzell” of the elite school in Hermann Hesse’s “Glass Bead Game” comes from is unknown. We have chosen this name deliberately as a metaphor of Hermann Hesse’s “Waldzell”. For generations the allegory “Waldzell” ignites the desire in many people to make this imaginary place with all its fine sentiment and high spirits, become a reality. To create this keen and perceptive place, where extraordinary people meet, is the long-term aim of the “Waldzell Institute.”

Gundula Avenali

has been dealing with natural sciences, modern technologies and spiritual teachings for the past 25 years. She has a degree in biotechnology and is a Yoga therapist and Yoga teacher. From 2001 to 2005 she was deputy mayor for the first district of Vienna.

Her special interest lies in the development of a holistic view and way of life. She focuses on how human beings can develop both individually and collectively in order to be prepared for the many challenges of the future. For her, Waldzell is a way to fill the theories identified with life and to bring about real change. The initiative “Architects of the Future” that supports young and inspired leaders of a new, more human and more sustainable society, is especially dear to her heart.

The Idea

The Waldzell project stems from the belief that an increased number of people search for a fulfilled private life, which enables them to experience personal development as well as economic success. The idea is that the Age of Information will be followed by the Age of Consciousness characterized by the ‘society of meaning’, a system in which people search for a self-determined life, making it possible to have both inner growth and success in business.

Architects of the Future

The Architects of the Future are a worldwide community of young and inspired social entrepreneurs who realize their dream of a better world by bringing successful social businesses to life. By linking their awareness for integrated thinking to successful entrepreneurship and combining social warmth with social commitment, the Architects of the Future act as forerunners of a new economy. They are inspiring role-models for all those who are aiming for a meaningful and productive life.

The Architects of the Future concentrate their work on social and ecological problems and help finding solutions where economy and politics have none. The Waldzell Leadership Institute and the Architects of the Future work hand in hand for a conscious economy that is moved and inspired by the wish for a continuous inner and outer progress of humanity, based on social harmony and sustainability.

Following the initiative’s foundation in the context of the Waldzell Meetings in 2005, “Architects of the Future” has grown to become a substantial global transformational force that not only advocates a profound transformation of society, but also acknowledges that change can only start within one’s own inner self. At present the community comprises over 90 members world-wide.

If you want to become part of the „Architects of the Future“ community, please send your application with CV with photo, description of your project and your motivation to become a member of the community to office@architectsofthefuture.net.

Waldzell Collection

Starting with the inaugural Waldzell Meeting in 2004, the lifetime works of the speakers of the Waldzell Meetings and later on also of the Architects of the Future are incorporated in the form of historic “peciae” in a work of art specifically created for the purpose, the Waldzell Collection, into the Abbey’s library. In this way, they become part of one of the world’s most significant collections. This is intended to symbolically appreciate the importance of those individuals striving to create something whose significance reaches far beyond their individual selves.

The Melk Library

The Waldzell Collection is placed permanently in the second room of the library, which is visited each year by 450,000 people. The chosen symbolic installation is a deliberate reference to the form of installing written works in the library as traditionally used in the Middle Ages, namely in the form of peciae. This gives concrete expression to the continuing development and expansion of the historic library with works by major contemporary figures.

The form of the Waldzell sculpture is suggestive of the symbol for infinity and also of a Moebius strip. Both references contribute to the symbolic importance of the object. The first symbol suggests the boundlessness of human knowledge; the second represents mental self- reflection, which is an attribute of knowledge and one of the underlying principles of existence.

The Artists
The Waldzell Collection was designed by Clegg & Guttmann, two leading American artists who have specialized in library projects around the world. The works of Michael Clegg and Martin Guttmann have been exhibited many times in the USA, Germany, France, Italy, Austria, Japan and in other countries. Their works are featured in the Whitney Museum, the Beaubourg and the Stuttgart Staatsgalerie, to mention only a few places.

Unfold your strength of reality, your power of Infinity, your mission to accomplish, to succeed. You are the perfect projection of success. That's why success is the one, you are the two, and achievement is the three. Within those three selves penetrate, concentrate, deep, and deeper.
